Re: 11th Va Infantry and John Archer Blankinship

Thats what I thought. I'm still not sure if he could read and write or not because I haven't been able to find much at all, legal documents, marriage licences pensions, or wills that he may have signed so I don't no what he went by. I have tried many sites like ancestry.com and other family history sites and haven't been able to find anything that is readable.
I have this family history book with a lot of info. The author is long dead so I can't contact him. His grandfather (I believe) was John's brother and he goes on and on about him but doesn't say much about John at all except that he fought through the war all the way through. Sadly about a lot of family members it shows wills for them but not for him.
Do you think looking through an old family bible would be a reliable source for info on what he went by?
Thanks a million. You've been a godsend.
