3rd VA Reg't. Co. D Cav.

Warner A. Guy enlisted on March 19, 1862 in Richmond by Col. Richardson and he was paroled in Dover Mine on May 16, 1865. He was living with his brother Lewis Guy in Henrico Co. VA in 1900. He was 66 years old in 1900 and a widow. He has a CSA headstone with his name, and Co. D 3rd VA CAV on it. The headstone is in Charlotte Co., VA at the Cub Creek cemetery.

How does a veteran get a headstone? Did the government provide it? Did the veteran or family buy it? Their was no date of death. Many records were burned during the CW. I have been unable to discover his age of death or if he is buried in Cub Creek Cemetary.

I have bought Thomas Nanzig book "3rd Virginia Cavalry" and his name is in it along with his brothers and cousins: Francis W. Guy, Francis J. Guy, Thomas Guy and Lt. William Scott Guy. If anyone has any help in finding when he died and if he is buried in the cemetery at Cub Creek, I would be most appreciative. Betty Backer
