Re: Oteys Battery
In Response To: Re: Oteys Battery ()

I believe apologies are in order. My ancestor was William E. Salmons (or Sammons). He may have served in the Ringgold Battery, not Otey's battery. I have a photocopied page from Cavanaugh's book showing his service record brief, but the page does not specify whether he was in Otey's or the Ringgold battery. I suspect it was the Ringgold. The Soldier and Sailors database shows it as Company B, 13th Battalion Virginia Artillery, i.e. the Ringgold Battery. Both Otey's and the Ringgold battery were eventually brigaded in the same battalion (in late 1864), but they had served separately up to that point. The Ringgold battery served at Cloyd's Mountain, for example.
I will have to buy Cavanaugh's book to get the picture.
At any rate, thanks for the info.
