One nice spot is White's Ferry, which runs across the Potomac just north of Leesburg. During the War it was a ford across the river, and by the ford Lee's army crossed in the September, 1862 invasion of Maryland, and J. E. B. Stuart also crossed at White's Ford on his ill-fated ride east of Hooker's army during Lee's invasion of Pennsylvania in June, 1863.
Snicker's Gap is close by to Leesburg, a strategic pass across the Blue Ridge.
