The Virginia in the Civil War Message Board

Stonewall Jackson

I am doing some research on a Civil War Diary found in Alabama. The girl making the entries was eighteen years old when the war began. Much of her information, before the North invaded her area, was from hearsay, rumors, and returning soldiers.

This entry on,....

June, 14, 1862. General "Stonewall" Jackson has been fighting up in Virginia. He has whipped both Shields and Banks. Oh, that we had more generals like him!
-----------------------------------------------------------

I have not been able to locate any battle in late May or early June (before the 14th...in 1862, where Jackson was in conflict with Banks and/or Shields. Does anyone know if this is true? What battle and where? Or, do you know a website I could go to for help?

I would appreciate any information anyone has on this.
Thank you,
Betty Waller
