Nope. The person in the 30th Battalion was J. W. Bishop, a different Floyd County man. Beware of listings of men with the same or similar names.
Major Peter Johnston Otey commanded a brigade consisting of the 51st Virginia Infantry, the 45th Virginia Infantry, and the 30th Battalion Virginia Sharpshooters. Joseph C. Bishop's pension file says he was in the 45th Virginia Infantry under Otey before being transferred to the 17th VA Infantry.
The Virginia Regimental Histories Series were published in the 80's and 90's. Some of the books are out of print. Use a search engine to locate them---beware of high prices. Most sell for around $25. I have the volume 45th Virginia Infantry by J. L. Scott. Bishop is not listed in the roster. I do not have the 17th Virginia Infantry by the late Lee A. Wallace, Jr.
Perhaps someone with Wallace's book will post regarding his listing in the compiled service records. If so order the book on-line and get the records by clicking the red rectangle at the top of this page.
