Sorry about the delay in answering.
The relative in question was my wife's great great grandfather, Thomas Bourne.
He was shot through the elbow at the Wilderness. This severe wound might have saved his life because he was not taken prisoner there or at Spotsylvania like so many of the 50th.
His elbow healed in a fixed 90 degree angle. He lived a long life back in his hometown of Tazewell, Va.
I do have your book, it is quite informative. I did order the image from the MOC and am waiting to recieve it.

p.s. I have been told through a former NPS employee who worked at the Fredericksburg Battlefield NPS unit, that the 50th broke at the Wilderness as they were getting overrun. The person went on to say that their commander, General Jones, stayed at the front, purportedly to counteract the stigma he had as a heavy drinker, and was killed in action.
