I need some help with a unit, but it's more about it's location at a certain time. My GGGF, Henry Sparks, was in the Kentucky 5th Infantry(CSA) as a 12 month man. He enlisted in April, 1861 with Colonel John S. Williams under Captain Daniel Blevins in Company K according to his muster papers from the National Archives. It further states that he "deserted" at Camp Mocassin or Mocassin, VA on April 15th, 1862. Was there a camp or fort there? Was a battle fought there at that time? Was that part of the old 5th Kentucky merging with another Confederate unit in Virginia? I would be most grateful for any light you can shine on these questions.
