Thanks, Art. I was already convinced, as were other members of our group here, that Graydon's service was just part of family lore. I have researched his movements, backwards in time, and have gotten to February, 1862, when he left New Zealand for Australia. The time frame for his supposed service in the Civil War gets less and less, and I am absolutely sure that he never ever served in the Civil War.
