James N. Overbey enrolled in Co. K, 14th May, 1861 in Richmond, age 22, occupation Merch [sic] as a 2nd Lieutenant.

On reorganization of the Confederate Army he was not relected, May 6, 1862. Subsequently, he was discharged.
