Re: Parole Roster

I have obtained copies of his pension application and the section of the letter you refer to says:

"On the fourth Friday in March 1865, we went in Battle and was defeated and all of my Company was killed and captured but three besides myself. On Saturday, we fell back to Five forks and fought all day and we was defeated again and I still remained with that Division until the Surrender at Appmatox Court House when Lee surrendered. We all went Home and later we was notified to report at Christiansburg, Va and I went and taken the oath of allegiants."

My great grandfather (J.C.Bishop) was one of 7 men transferred from the 45th Va sometime between Sept. 1864 to Dec. 1864 to the 17th Va. and placed under arrest in late Dec. 1864. All of these 7 men were from the Floyd/Montgomery County, Va. area.

There isn't any record of any of these 7 men on the rolls of the 45th.

So where would I look for the oath of allegiance he took after the surrender? Would that be in the county records?

I appreciate your help.
