In February 1865 President Abraham Lincoln met with Confederate Vice President Alexanderr Stephens and Campbell and Hunter on a boat docked at Fortress Monroe, Virginia.
My question is: How did Lincoln travel from the train station in Annapolis, Md. to the boat at the Naval Academy that took him to Hampton Roads?
Did he walk? Did he take a carriage? Or ride a horse?
In the NY Herald and the DC Evening Star the accounts say he "proceeded."
Does anyone have more details on this?
