Ancell's Company, Virginia Light Artillery
Cocke's-Ancell's Battery [also called 2nd Fluvanna Artillery] was organized in August, 1861. The unit served in the Richmond area, then moved with the Army of Northern Virginia and saw action in the Maryland Campaign. During November, 1862, it merged with Holman's-Huckstep's Battery to form the Fluvanna Light Artillery. Captains John J. Ancell and Cary C. Cocke were in command.

Capt Charles G. Snead's Co Va Lt Arty
Fluvanna Arty; Fluvanna County; formerly Capt John Livingston Massie's Co Va Lt Arty; formed by the consolidation of Capt John J. Ancell's and Capt Charles T. Huckstep's Companies of Light Artillery "by order of Gen. Lee dated Oct 4, 1862". Ancell's Co was disbanded by S. O. No. 209, Army of Northern Virginia, dated October 4, 1862, which directed that "the men will be assigned to the two other Va companies (serving in Nelson's Bn) in suitable proportion as Maj Nelson may direct." Under this latitude in carrying out the provisions of the order, Major Nelson appears to have consolidated the two companies known as the Fluvanna Artillery, and formed this company, both of them having served in Nelson's Bn Reserve Arty. The consolidated company sugsequently served in this battalion, and was reported as Company F, and later as Co C.
Captains: John L. Massie (d. Sept 24, 1864), Charles G. Snead

NOTE: He is the only James Baltimore listed in both units; no other Baltimore name; one can safely assume it is the same person.
