Betty Herndon Maury, daughter of Matthew Fontaine Maury, cousin of Dabney Herndon Maury, lived in Fredericksburg, Virginia for part of the Civil War. She began a diary when she and her family left Washington, D.C. for Fredericksburg in June, 1861.
