John L. Johnson, Wythe Co. Home Guards

Searching for military record of John L. Johnson.

His son, Robert Payne Johnson, submitted an application to the Col. D. H. Lee Martz Camp, # 10, Harrisonburg VA, Sons of Confederate Veterans circa 1923. In this application, Robert noted his father, John born 16 December 1807, served in the Home Guards until the surrender. Robert also noted his own occupation as merchant in Wytheville.

It is possible John spent most of his service time working on government contracts in his wagon construction shop in Whytheville.

Any information concerning John L. Johnson's military record would be most appreciated.
