Note:
Copies of Marriage, Birth, and Death pages (3 pp.) received by ATJ from E. L. Trinkle III on 19 July 2002. He may have obtained them from Agnes Oglesby Crockett [Davis]. Marriage page lists only that of R.P. Johnson and A. V. Trinkle; the year of the marriage given was pre-printed "188___," but has been corrected to read "1877___." It appears that the family data were inscribed at least three years after the marriage. Most surnames are Johnson, but there are also Trinkle, Hoyt, Kirkner, Foote, and Walker names.

In looking at NPS Civil War Soldier & Sailor System, under the name JOHN L. JOHNSON as well as in Ancestry.com, there are 6 of that name but none seem to fit the recruiting area and none are listed as being in the Home Guard. But if he were active in the wagon making trade, he probably was in the Wytheville Home Guard. Wythe County did have one company of Infantry Home Guard in 1863.
