CSA Soldier Search Request

During the closing days of the War Between the States, on March 7, 1865, my GG Grandfather John Ashley Boyet, CSA Pvt of the 1st Regiment, Georgia Reserves (Symons') of Brooks County Georgia died in Richmond County Virginia. We know nothing about how he died or where he was buried. We are requesting help. Do you have e-mail contacts for the Old Jackson Hospital and Cemetery in Richmond County. I suspect he may have been buried there in March 1865...

We have no information as to the cause of death, whether in battle, wounds or disease. We have been unable to locate his burial site or further details. We only know that he “died on March 7, 1865 in Richmond County Virginia.” Ashley Boyet’s parents were Moses Boyet and Mary Stevens. Moses Boyet was born 1780 in Wayne County North Carolina. He married Mary (Polly) Stevens on FEB 28, 1810 in Johnson County North Carolina.

John Ashley Boyet was born in 1816 in Wayne County NC. He married Nancy Holwell in JAN 1837 in Lowndes County Georgia. Nancy Holwell was born on JAN 15, 1817. John Ashley Boyett died in Richmond County VA on MAR 7, 1865, probably of wounds or was killed by Union fire, during The War Between the States and is assumed to have been buried there.

John Ashley Boyet and Nancy Holwell-Boyet had the following children: Sophronia Boyet born about 1838 in Lowndes County GA
Francis M. Boyet born 1842 in Lowndes County GA
William N. Boyet born 1844 in Lowndes County GA
Edward J. Boyet born 1847 in Lowndes County GA
Jane Boyet born 1851 in Lowndes County GA
John Boyet born 1854 in Lowndes County GA
Anna Lisa Boyet-Rogers born 1863 Lowndes CO, GA; buried next to her mother Nancy Holwell-Boyett in Day FL Cemetery
Mary Elizabeth Boyet born March 11, 1857 in Lowndes County GA; buried next to her husband Isaac Newton Barrs in Day FL Cemetery (Note: Great Grandmother Elizabeth Boyet-Barrs and I, Al Barrs, Jr. share the same birth date…March 11th.)

John Ashley Boyet’s wife Nancy Holwell-Boyet died APR 2, 1892 in Day Lafayette County FL and is buried in the Day FL Cemetery. Ironically her headstone has the spelling of ‘Boyett’ rather than ‘Boyet’. GG Grandmother Nancy Holwell-Boyet lived with her youngest child, Mary Elizabeth Boyet and her husband Isaac Newton Barrs, my Great Grandparents, in Day, FL until her death on APR 2, 1892.
- Mary Elizabeth Boyet was born March 11, 1857 in Lowndes County GA and married Isaac Newton Barrs, born 1849 in Lowndes County GA, on January 29, 1873 in Brooks County GA.
- Son Oscar Marion Barrs born 1879 Lafayette County FL

- Son Alfonso Barrs (Sr.) born 1917 Lafayette County FL
