Francis M. Bates.

Does anyone have any data on a Francis M. Bates, born in Boston, about 1835, and who was involved in the theater at the time of the Civil War. There are two Australian newspaper biographies on Bates, one from 1874, indicating that he was in Virginia at the start of the war, and continued in his acting career throughout the south, during the war, and the other, from 1879, an obituary at the time of his death in Australia, which indicates that he was in Virginia at the start of the war, and immediately enlisted in the Army, was involved in the Seven Days campaign, and was promoted for his actions there. This last biography indicates he was in Mobile when she surrendered. This second bio would indicate that he enlisted in a Virginia regiment, yet one web site, which includes numerous errors and assumptions, claims that he was in one or two units from Alabama, neither of which were in the Seven Days. There are too many contradictions at this web site, to the data I actually have on Bates from officially documented sources.
Need any information on his acting career or to prove that he was never in any Alabama unit, please.
