Re: Compiled Service Records
In Response To: Compiled Service Records ()

This information would have been a great help to me four years ago when I began my research on : William Reith, 1st Virginia Regiment. Company 'G'. His service records are located under the title "Unfiled Papers and Slips Belonging in Confederate Compiled Service Records". This is due to the 1st Va. being in a state of disorganization following the Conscription Law in early 1862. No proper records where kept after this until later in the year, which resulted in William and others being omitted from the 1st Va. roster. If only more funds had been available to the clerks then soldiers like William Reith would now have the recognition that they so justly deserve. Instead they are only to be found in the obscure records of Unfiled Papers and Slips etc, and not the Roster of the 1st Virginia or its history.
