My relative Hiram English Cox(Cock) Sgt 54th Va Inf. was captured at the same battle and also enlisted in the navy out of Rock Island prison. I was able to get his list of ships from his pension application for a US Navy pension. If you look at the original rolls from Rock Island there is a large percent of men enlisting in the US Navy. I am wondering if Mr. Bishop was captured with my relative. It seems a sizable group of the 54th was seperated at the battle of Missionary ridge and all of them were captured at the sametime and sent to Rock Island by way of Louisville, Ky.
