My GGGrandfather Samuel James Benton was a private in Co. K of the 193rd New York Infantry. It was reported in court proceedings that he went AWOL at Harpers Ferry on Aug 5, 1865 and returned Aug 6. The company Muster roll says he deserted at Harpers Ferry on Oct 2 1865 but mustered out Jan 18 1866. Can anyone can direct me to where I can find more information about him?
