An indentified image would be a HUGE stroke of luck, but there are a ton of cards and papers in Gayle's military service file. It appears that this officer was wounded at Port Walthall Junction. The story of Wise's Virginia Brigade in this overlooked campaign will be found in this book --

Unless Gayle's father was no older than forty-five when the war began, he would be unlikely to have a Confederate military record. Occupation would help us understand what his role may have been.
