During the War Between The States several members of the Lenoir's served the Confederacy one being Thomas Isaac Lenoir Captain in the 25thNCT who is buried on the property. Also Stoneman's Raiders rode through and threatened to burn the home and its buildings but instead harnessed the slaves and stole food and livestock. Even thou the main focus of the property today is covering Colonial times. The homestead and its history spans over 200 years. Current management of the Historic site is trying to bring more attention on all the history of Ft Defiance through events like this one.
