There is in his file, correspondence from the A. G. O., War Department, responding to the Trustees of the Confederate Home in McAlester, Oklahoma with the date listed as 11,10,16, stating that they have no record in the Confederate Archives related to Geo. W. Newton, Co. D, 38th Virginia.

This would suggest that he either applied to the home or was resident therein.
