I am looking for any information on the capture of VA citizens who were loyal to the confederacy and their placement in POW camps. What offenses would these citizens be charged with? What offenses would be considered punishable by execution?

I would also like info on a particular citizen, William Wigginton. He was charged with being disloyal and was held at a couple POW camps including Old Capital Prison in DC. Family stories indicate that he was scheduled for execution but received a pardon from Lincoln because he was so young. Any tips on where to look for verification of this are appreciated.
