Re: Burbridge's expedition to Saltville

The route of the Union troops was from Ky. through Buchanan County Virginia, into the Richlands area of Tazewell County. The local militia fired upon the Union troops somewhere near the present day site of the Clinch Valley Medical Center west of the town (we could never locate the exact position). Gilner dug in at Cedar Bluff near the present day trash transfer station, but was flanked by the Union forces who moved across what is now Kent's Ridge Road. Gilner then moved across Paintlick Mountain to get in front of the advancing union forces in the Maiden Springs/Cove area and fell back across Clinch Mountain. Thsi is the road now know as Solder's Road leading into the Saltville area. Hope this info helps you.
