Re: Burbridge's expedition to Saltville

Mr. Hess:

Thank you very much. Trying to correlate the movements, as written by Mosgrove, and Guerrant, with the maps I've been able to gather up has been very frustrating. Union reports have been quite vague, as well. Your description is quite clear and sensible, and much appreciated. The geographic referance points you use, irrespective of historic preservation, speak to an intimate knowledge of the expedition. I would very much like to discuss Burbridge's movement, and assault, with you at length and in detail. I am an interpretive specialist at the Perryville Battlefield, who had a gg-grandfather in Co. "I", 11th MI Cav. I've been toying with the idea of putting together a regimental history for that unit, as none currently exists. Got as far as Richlands, when the described locations stopped fitting the maps. Would love to hear more from you, or anyone, on details of the approach, and withdrawl (Sandy Ridge) from Saltville. While this forum is great, and I feel this thread should remain public, anyone who may care to contribute privately, may e-mail me directly at lott1012@msn.com .

Best regards, Chuck
