Bryce...........sounds like Allen's Farm. Was near the intersection of Nine Mile and Williamsburg Roads. National Cemtery there...SEVEN PINES. This was the location of McClellen's second line in '62. Fair Oaks and Seven Pines being the same battle (basically) on seperate ground due to command structure. Chaffin's Bluff is not far from this location as is Fort Harrison, a position of large forces of USCT and their slaughter near the approach to the fort. Third Company, Richmond Howitzers was positioned near this ground and retreated through the city of Richmond, 3 April, on Charles City Road (now State Route 5) and crossed the James River on "Mayo's Bridge" now known as 14th Street Bridge at the end of the rapids of the James River below Richmond. Mayo's Bridge (14th Street) led into the township of Manchester on the south of the river where troops united in areas such as Branch's Baptist Church (site still there) and marched south west on present day State Route 360 (Hull Street Road) towards Amelia Court House and Farmville in an effort to reach Danville and the railroads in attempt to unite with Joe Johnston's Army in North Carolina. I guess we know how that worked out. Of course there was a large force of the ANV south of the James near Five Forks and Dinwiddie CH. All of these troops trying to combine in their effort to evacuate Petersburg and Richmond.
