I do believe you are more correct on the information on this Cumby ancestor as I have continued to research him, I have come across much more info that lends crendence to this story. Mainly, that it is the regiment where some of the other ancestors J.D.Martin ( please read page 4 posting on him ) enlisted. The Martins and the Cumbys' were friends, neighbors and entered into marriage with one another. Joel T Cumby married Elnora V. Martin, which are my g-grandparents,to which I have documented info, making the dates of marriages, births, deaths, etc. all fit into place better.
I'm hoping Johnny Reb will help us verify this, as he is so "right-on" the mark.
