Re: 5th Virginia Infantry - H. E. Howard, Inc
Most identified images from the Civil War were taken inside Northern lines and subjects are usually Northern soldiers. Sometimes Northern photographers took images of Confederate dead or Confederate prisoners. However, names of Southern dead left scattered on the battlefield as well as prisoners on their way to confinement in the North are not known.
If it exists, the kind of wartime image you are asking about should be in the hands of a descendant. They are very hard to find. It's like having a meteor drop on your lawn -- you see them out there in the night sky, and hear about them landing on someone else's lawn, but don't hold your breath waiting on a meteor to appear on your doorstep!
