Mike,

I have a fair amount of information in regards to the family of James F. Dawson (b. 1840-d. 1863). They all lived in what was then a blacksmithing and farming community located in Dawsonville, Greene County, Virginia. My mother and her two brothers learned to swim in the pond near the site of the old farmhouse which apparently burned down about 1930. James F. Dawson was the brother of my great grandfather, John Minor Dawson (b. 1 Dec 1843 - d. bef. 1925). They were born to William Dawson (1809 - 1870) and Mariah Brown Dawson (b. 1817 - d. aft. 1900), who also had four other children, Reuben Benjamin Dawson (b. 14 May 1841 - d. 15 May 1928), Penelope L. Dawson (b. 1846 - d. aft. 1920), Daniel Strother Dawson (b. 18 Jun 1848 - d. 03 Mar 1918), and Charles William Dawson (b. 14 Sep 1854 - d. 15 Feb 1919). I have not been able to find out if James F. Dawson was married prior to joining the 7th Virginia Infantry.
