Re: John Frank Johnson of 48th VA

If you have time, check the Library of Virginia for records. I found my great grandfather's records there. (Josiah Brightwell, Staunton Hill Artillery,Charlotte County, VA. The film refers to the microfilm record. I just returned from a road trip to the actual Library and they were very helpful. They had the military records of the entire unit on microfilm. They are very helpful. Warning they do charge .75 for each page copied but it was well worth it when you know what unit. I did not check if they had muster roll however. His pension records were online through the library site including his wife's. I also found Josiah's parole on microfilm.
