I was born and raised in Virginia as were all my ancestors. The physical and moral strenght of the people who fought this war even when they knew they could not possibly win never ceases to amaze me.I think that is the main reason for my long interest.Suffolk Va where I grew up was the site of a major siege by Longstreet during 1863.My parents generation said little and I believe thought little about the war. They would have had first hand information from grandparents.( aFederal breastwork was pushed down to build the house behind my parents in 1950).Perhaps it was because they had been thru the depression and WW2.Now there is increased interest in the Civil War I think mainly because towns have generated tourism interest with War sites. While I realize it was not universal in the South, the sence of purpose that the people had is what interests me.That is not found today.
