I don't think that John of the 136/146th was the same man as John of the 3rd. Suggest you check the 1860 census to see if you can pin him down.

Note, this fellow spelled his name as Towns.

John E.Towns enlisted as a Captain on January 1,1862 in Company A, 3rd Regiment, 7th Brigade, Virginia Militia at the Fair Grounds, Winchester, the only other documents in his file are a pay voucher for the period January 1 to March 23, 1862
