Bernard Fauth, Portsmouth Lt Arty

Lieutenant Bernard Fauth, Portsmouth Light Artillery, (Grimes' Battery, aka Capt John H. Thompson's Co, Va Lt Arty), transferred to Milligan's Independent Signal Corps as a private, rising to sergeant. Lee Wallace's "Guide to Va Mil Orgs," p. 34, states that the men of the arty unit were dispersed and the old company disbanded Oct '62. Porter's history of Norfolk-Portsmouth during the war states that, after transfer to sig svc, Fauth was KIA in 1864 (possibly prior to Fall, '64). He is buried Portsmouth.

Can anyone account for the action or circumstances in which he was killed?
