Patrick McCarthy (McCarty, Carty) born in Ireland 186-1833 married (unknown date & place) Mary Farrell born in Ireland 1832-1840. Both arrived New York in 1851. Children:
1-Thomas P McCarthy born 8 May 1854 in New York City birth recored in Massachusetts
2-James Mansfield McCarthy born 18 Feb 1858 in Lowell Massachusetts
3-Mary Ann born Jan 1864 Staunton, Va There is no record of a birth or baptism of this child in Stunton records but in her later documents there is very reliable evidence that she was born in Staunton.
4-Patrich H born Jan 1866 in Baltimore MD
Three more children born in Baltimore and recorded in the Catholic Churches there
This family appears in the 1860 census for Covington, Allegheny Co VA
Patrick is recorded as a laborer; Catherine J appears with this family but in not the child of Patrick and Mary
Covington according to the 1860 census had many Irish residencts with Massachusetts connections
1870 census and therafter the McCarthy family appears in the Maryland censuses and other records
I have considered that the Patrick Canty in the Carpenter's Battery Co A might be my Patrick McCarthy
