Re: Help with potential burial locations

Thanks for the info and push to take another look at Hollywood for George of the 1st SC. Thanks to another post that has the link to the historic records, I closely reviewed them. I have previously been in contact with the people at Hollywood and indirectly with Chris F. (They found another soldier of mine who was misidentified in the old records.) Using George's regiment and death date, I believe that I found him listed as a G.A. Winting of the 1st SC Rifles who was buried on 4/23/64. I then checked the 1st SC roster to make sure there wasn't a Winting with them and there wasn't. In fact, NPS records only show 1 Winting and he was with the Union. I sent an email back to the people at Hollywood for their thoughts on this but I am comfortable believing this to be my soldier. I have learned that especially with uncommon names like Wigginton, you have to be open to a wide variety of misidentifications. I have now 4 soldiers who records list with the incorrect name who I am reasonably certain are Wiggintons. They were listed as Winting and Higginson (Hollywood), Higgleton (Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton VA), and Wiggerton (Woodville MS). Sure makes for a fun search!
