Spotsylvania to Alexandria Virginia

About May 20, 1864 Peter Nevin of the Oneida Cavalry (NYSV), while carrying despatches from the headquarters of the Army of the Potomic at Spotsylvania, Va. to Belle Plain, was captured. He was able to escape from his captors and evaded recapture by working his way north to Alexandria, Va. where he reported to the Provost Marshall on June 1, 1864. Any information relating to this incident or Confederate activity in this area at the time would be appreciated.
