Enlisted on 3/8/1862 at Lynchburg, VA as a Private.
On 3/8/1862 he mustered into "D" Co. VA 20th Battn Heavy Artillery
He was discharged for disability on 3/30/1864
(Discharged for chronic hepatitis.)
He was described at enlistment as:
5' 11", dark complexion, black eyes, black hair
