Re: 50th VA Infantry / 8th VA Cavalry

Thanks John,

I think you're right. I was just wondering if there were any anecdotes of soldiers within the 50th Inf and the 8th Va moving back and forth between the regiments.

Two of Matthew's cousins, Emery and Leabon Deatherage, were still with Co. K of the 50th VA during Chancellorsville and stayed with the regiment until captured at the Wilderness in 1864; after the War, all 3 of them moved together to Moniteau County, Missouri. Emery migrated to Texas in the 1870s, Leabon stayed in Missouri and died near Jamestown, Mo in 1883. Matthew lived out his life in Moniteau County and died in 1909.

I'm sure Matthew picked up all the details of the battle from his cousins and may have repeated the story of Stonewall Jackson's demise as a vicarious spectator.
