This is a heads up on the Arkansas monument that is going to be installed in Stonewall Cemetery in Winchester, VA. There are about 3,000 Confederates from all Southern states buried there and the only grouping of soldiers lacking a state monument are Arkansas and Kentucky. There are 20 soldiers buried there from the 3rd Arkansas and they died in 1861 and early 1862 most during Jackson's Romney Campaign. The local UDC chapter and SCV camp [of which I'm a member] are raising money for the unveiling on Confederate Memorial Day here in Winchester on June 6, 2011. There is a fund raising program in Winchester on October 2 that is sponsored by the Turner Ashby Chapter UDC and there link w/ info is http://turnerashby184.com/ I will try to keep this board posted as the project moves along.
