My great-uncle, James Davis Vaughan, with the 3rd VA Cavalry, died during the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.
Before he died, he was found by his brother and taken to the home of a Mrs. Thomas, where he died. He was buried in her garden.
On a 1863 Army Engineers map of the area,there is a William Stanley Thomas farm and an R. Thomas farm.
Do the farmsteads still exist? Anyone descended from these Thomases who have heard this story?
