Thank you so much. I need to ask a question. Why didn't ranks from state militia transfer over to regular army? My other great-great- grandfather (Mordecai E White) was a captain in 51st Regiment, Virginia Militia. He served only as a private in the 39th Battalion Cavalry Co. A. Can someone please explain it to me.
