Found a document that says J M Corn, commander of the 8th Virginia Cavalry, turned over 1 saddle to Lieut. E. L. (Looks like Gordon?) of 1rst Brigade, Army of West Virginia. It is dated Lewisburg, Va, 1863. Am I right in thinking the 1rst Brigade was a union occupying force? Why would Corn be turning over a saddle to the enemy if he wasn't a prisoner?
