Re: Copperheads - Richard Foley

Thanks for your help John. It has been a long time since I even looked at any information concerning the Copperheads. I almost added the "B" and didn't even consider I was off with his first name. Robert B. Foley, used to have a fantastic picture of the man and some picstures of some who served under him. Foley was married to a Lester girl who ties into my Lester genealogy line.

I don't know if anyone will truly answer the question I am seeking. I am curious to know how long the Flat Top Copperheads existed after Foley was shot. I have come across old historty writings (genealogy writing) by Smith and Riffe who state that one of the Swinney boys was commander of the Copperheads, realizing if this is true it might have only been for a short period of time, perhapse after Foley was shot and died, while the Copperheads were dispursing and joining other Confederate forces. But like to know if this is true.

Again, John, thanks for your help. If you know of any books which might show pictures of Foley and any of his men please let me know.

Thanks.
