Several soldiers from 28th Va. Inf. are buried in the Cornstalk Cemetery near Parkersburg, Indiana. That is about half way between Crawfordsville and Greencastle, Indiana. Does anyone have any idea how they found their way to west central Indiana after the war? There names are:

1. Joseph M. Payne Co. D
2. Nathaniel Shaver Co. E
3. Robert Ayers Co. G

Two other CSA soldiers are also buried there:

4. John Foster Payne Co. H 13th VA. Infantry
5. William M. Foster Co. A 5th Va. Inf. (also the "Stonewall Brigade")

There are also two Union Soldiers buried with them. All of the headstones are in a row and may constitute a memorial to Civil War veterans from both sides.

This is a very remote spot near an abandoned Miami Indian village on the banks of Cornstalk Creek named after Chief Peter Cornstalk.
