According to J. Cutler Andrews' book The South Reports the Civil War, "X" was James Beverly Sener, who used that identity when writing for both the Richmond Daily Dispatch and the Daily Ricmond Enquirer. Andrews also identifies "A" as Peter Wellington Alexander who used that identity when writing for the Mobile Daily Advertiser and Register. In that regard, since newspapers often reprinted articles from other newspapers, is it possible that the Richmond Enquirer artcile you are citing may have be a reprint from the Mobile Daily Advertister?
