Custer didn't fare too well in Greene County either. Gettysburg was called the "high water mark" of the war. But Lee and the ANV were still kicking butt in 1864. Other than the minimal Mine Run Campaign, Meade's/Grant's army didn't even strike a tent until spring of '64. Then the chaos and killing began like never before. On both sides.
