I started with the National Park Service Soldier and Sailor website. You can search for soldiers with those names. Before you do that, make a list of all the creative ways you can spell the names that you are looking for. You can also narrow it down by state if you want/need to. After that I would recommend (especially for Confederate records) the website footnote.com. It is a for-pay site (and isn't cheap) but they do have a free trial period and the amount of info there is amazing. Once you have more specifics on the soldiers you are looking for post them on this website as you will be quite amazed at the info you can get here too. I have been researching my "collateral" relatives who fought in the war for 4 1/2 yrs now and I am a pure beginner compared to a lot of the people on here. Good luck and keep all of us posted!
