With regard to my book, used copies sometimes appear on the website Abe Books or the website Alibris.

You are correct that Gordon Thornton does not have a separate compiled service record in the National Archives. However, there are few records there, albeit scattered, that give some insight into his service. One card, labeled G. Thornton, is actually filed in the Compiled Service Record of Jeremiah Thornton, I/50Va. In the National Archives Microfilm 374, Unfiled Slips and Papers pertaining to soldiers who served in Confederate Units, are three more cards, filed under the names of Gordon Jefferson Thornton, G.J. Thornton, and G.I. Thornton. Here is what I have on Gordon Jefferson Thornton, much of it not in my book, but collected since the book was published. If you have additional material or information about his postwar or prewar life and any more details about his wartime service, especially pictures, letters, diaries, I'd like to get copies. As far as I can tell about his Civil War service, he spent most of it at Montgomery White Sulphur Springs hospital, either sick or detailed to duty there in some capacity.
